The conquest of the moon: the whole story

July 29, 2019

Exceptional archival images and unpublished testimonies

Based on exceptional archival images and unpublished testimonies, a fascinating exploration of the decade that brought man to the Moon. Last part: Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong form the crew of "Apollo 11".

Three names are about to become legendary: Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong. They form the crew of Apollo 11, which will orbit the Moon to release a habitable lunar landing module. The shuttle's takeoff is broadcast live in the United States, Japan, throughout Western Europe and South America. The Soviet Union is preparing Lunar 15, an uninhabited shuttle scheduled to land on the same day. But second after second, it is with American astronauts that a part of the planet, riveted in front of the television screen, vibrates in unison. Finally, the ship lands and Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the Moon, utters a sentence that will become mythical... It is both the realization of a decade of running to the Moon, the realization of a scientific miracle and the death of a form of space exploration that only the fantasies of conquest of Mars will awake.

Great explorers

Through interviews with key witnesses and sublime archival images, some of them unpublished, Robert Stone explores the other side of the myth to reveal, fifty years later, a complex reality that is partly obscured by the official saga of NASA and the history of the policies pursued in Washington and Moscow. In this great documentary fresco, fascinating from beginning to end, he details the dreams, scientific challenges and unknown destinies that forged this crazy odyssey to the Moon. A quest full of breath, in the footsteps of great explorers.
