Mariner IV mars photograph. 17 july 1965. This is man's first closup picture of another planet. a photographic representation of digital data radiced from Mars by Mariner IV spacecraft.
This is the first photograph taken by Mariner. Viewed with the darkness of space at the top of the picture, the direction you are looking is toward the north pole which is out of view beyond the horizon. The general area view is slightly above the equator and shows the region around a bright area of the planet known as ELYSIUM.
